Boats and Yachts Transportation

Due to the nature of this commodity, yachts and boats fit perfectly on Höegh’s wide range of roll trailers. With lengths ranging from six to 24 metres, we can accommodate an extensive range on our vessels.

For wider boats such as catamarans, we use our Double-wide rolltrailer concept, which involves two 40 feet roll trailers positioned side-by-side, joined together by a coupling system.

Transportation of boats is either on their own trailer or on a roll trailer - with or without a cradle. Either way, our experienced cargo handling team will ensure the cargo is secure during its transport.

How to ship a yacht or boat overseas?

Transportation of boats is either on their own trailer or on a roll trailer - with or without a cradle. Either way, our experienced cargo handling team will ensure the cargo is secure during its transport.

Here's how the process generally works:

1. The boat or yacht is typically loaded onto the roll trailer at the water's edge using a crane or a hydraulic trailer. The trailer is positioned under the vessel, and the boat is carefully lifted and placed onto the trailer, ensuring proper balance and weight distribution.

2. Once the boat is on the roll trailer, it needs to be securely fastened to prevent any movement or damage during transportation. This usually involves using straps, chains, or other methods to secure the boat to the trailer. It's crucial to ensure the boat is tightly secured to minimize the risk of shifting or damage.

3. Roll trailers are designed to facilitate roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) transportation, which means the boat or yacht can be easily rolled onto and off the trailer without the need for a loading ramp. This is especially useful when transporting boats between land and water.

4. Once the boat is securely fastened to the roll trailer, it can be towed or transported by a suitable vehicle such as a truck or semi-trailer. The transportation route will depend on the destination and the specific logistics involved.

5. At the destination, the boat or yacht is carefully rolled off the trailer and placed back into the water. This is typically done using a crane or a hydraulic trailer, similar to the loading process but in reverse. Proper care is taken to ensure the vessel is safely returned to the water without any damage.

Why ship a boat overseas with Höegh Autoliners?

Having accumulated many years of deep expertise in international yacht shipping, we have the necessary logistics solutions to guarantee the secure arrival of your boat or yacht at its designated port.

How much does it cost to ship a boat or a yacht overseas?

Yacht and Boat shipping costs are based on quite a few factors including:

  • The physical location of the boat and whether it needs to be lifted from the water or needs a cradle built.
  • The overall dimensions of the yacht or vessel including the support trailer or cradle.
  • Required transport method, i.e., roll on roll off/ lift on lift off or water to water service.
  • Distance and destination country.
  • Additional services such as cradling, shrink-wrapping, or insurance.
  • Customs and import fees.

Which method for shipping a boat overseas do you offer?

We ship all yachts and boats using RORO (roll-on-roll-off). We simply roll the boats onto the deck of the shipping vessel and roll off at the destination. The benefit of using RORO for boat shipping is that your boat has minimal handling which means less chance of damage. Your boat will be shipped below deck in a secure weatherproof hold.

How to measure your boat?

Property measuring your boat is essential for safe transportation and to obtain an accurate quote.

You should provide:

  • Overall length. This is measured from the tip of the bow to the stern. It should include bow pulpits, swim platforms, motor brackets, and the length of the motors or outdrives in the raised position.
  • Overall height. This is measured from the highest, non-removable point of the boat to the bottom of the keel.
  • Beam. The beam is just the overall width of the boat, so measure from the two widest points including the rub rail.

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER - My life on Höegh Trooper Week 4

Seafarers sure know how to throw a party! From very early in the morning on December 24 everyone was busy preparing sumptuos amounts of food and decorating the messroom. There was glitter, there were balloons, and there was even a photo booth, adorned with the logo of Höegh Trooper, so that everyone could have a postcard-like photo to send to family and friends. The ambience was merry and filled with laughter, even if the Christmas season without doubt is the hardest time of the year for the crew to be away from their loved ones.

A troubled heart. My life on Höegh Trooper Week 3

The engine is the steaming hot heart of the ship. After each brief visit to the engine room, I urgently need a cold shower, but the engineers seem unaffected by the heat: – It’s only 38 degrees today, says Harris, the second engineer. – In the Arabian Peninsula and the Middle East, the temperature can surpass 50 degrees. At times, it’s only possible to work at night. Harris has worked in engine rooms for 13 years and still feels he’s learning something new every day. – When we reach Singapore, we’re replacing a staybolt, for instance. It has been broken since Belgium. I’ve never replaced a staybolt before.
