International Anti-Corruption Day 2024

Date 09.12.2024

December 9th marks International Anti-Corruption Day, a moment to reaffirm our commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability. This year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity,” recognizes the responsibility we all have in standing united with the next generation with the aim of fostering a determination to dismantle corrupt practices and establish lasting change. But it also spotlights the unique role of young people in the fight for a future built on ethical standards and fair opportunities. With 1.8 billion young people worldwide, their voice and engagement are essential to fostering societies resilient to corruption. Today’s youth must be empowered to champion integrity within their communities and globally, equipped with tools and education that cultivate values of transparency, accountability, and justice. Corruption robs young people of educational opportunities, job prospects, healthcare access, and a stable environment. And it contributes to broadening the social and environmental challenges and differences that we all have an obligation to fight.

Höegh Autoliners’ Commitment to Anti-Corruption

As a leader in the maritime industry, Höegh Autoliners adheres to the principles of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) as we uphold a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, bribery, and facilitation payments.

Corruption remains a pervasive challenge in international trade, weakening institutions, stifling economic growth, and threatening societal stability.

We believe that by fostering a culture grounded in compliance and integrity, we can contribute to building trust and creating lasting value for our organization and society. Our policies reflect this commitment. Transparency is our cornerstone, and we encourage our employees to speak up if they encounter any questionable practices.

Our Whistleblowing system and helpline provide a confidential, safe platform for reporting concerns anonymously, ensuring protection against retaliation.

However, collaborative efforts across industries, governments, and civil society are essential to achieve the profound change required to combat corruption effectively.

Höegh Autoliners is a proud co-founder and active participant in the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), a global initiative focused on eliminating corruption in maritime trade. Through MACN, we engage in sharing best practices, raising awareness, and supporting transparent business conduct across the sector.

Inspired by this, we aim to foster an industry where fair trade thrives free of corrupt practices. Our commitment extends beyond our walls to advocate for systemic change that will ultimately benefit all.

On this International Anti-Corruption Day, we renew our pledge to work alongside young leaders, industry peers, and communities to uphold ethical standards that support a fairer, more transparent world. Together, we stand united against corruption, championing integrity as a foundation for a sustainable future.
