Environment
Environmental issues are important in the day-to-day operations. Environmental legislation and requirements from customers are becoming more and more extensive and important. Working with environmental issues is not only about finding excellent technical solutions, it is just as much about attitude and understanding. Considerable efforts and resources are put into this through management focus, training, conferences and informal discussions on board and ashore.
Health, Safety, Security and Working Environment
Our aspirational goal is zero harm to people and minimum environmental footprint.
International and national legislation and guidelines form the basis of our health, safety, security and working environment (HSE). We also take active measures to reach beyond the requirements.
We believe accidents can be prevented by:
- Building a company culture which reinforces safety awareness among our employees.
- Ensuring practical and well-considered risk management onboard and ashore.
- Learning through analysing accidents and near accidents.
- Continuous improvement of procedures and routines including skills of personnel and emergency preparedness.
Our managers are ultimately accountable for ensuring that we move towards our aspirational goal of zero harm. HSE responsibilities and tasks are defined and communicated throughout the organisation. We educate all employees to understand the implications of this HSE policy and continuously evaluate the need for resources to ensure that the policy is lived up to.
We monitor the HSE indicators through:
- Monthly reporting.
- Yearly evaluation of developments and trends included in the Company Management Review.
- Yearly planning of HSE objectives, targets and actions being part of the Focus plan process
Environment
- Our culture shall be recognised by a deeply held belief in the necessity of taking responsibility for the environment we operate in.
- Our main environmental challenge is air emission. To meet this challenge, we will focus our efforts on reducing our vessel’s fuel consumption.
- We have an environmental program that will be reviewed yearly as part of the strategy-, budget- and goal setting process. The following guidelines will be applied in the review:
- We will always seek to take a long term and sustainable approach when balancing priorities related to financial performance and environmental impacts.
- We will take active measures to bring forward and make use of available and proven technology to reduce our environmental impact, i.e.
- Make use of commissioned R&D to develop new, energy efficient vessels and operation
- We will make use of our vessels as testing ground for new, promising technology and solutions
- We will promote a proactive approach towards our customers related to environmental matters and work together with them to explore and develop technological/operational solutions contributing to minimising the environmental footprint of our activities
- We will take a proactive role in contributing to shaping the regulatory landscape together with key regulators in order to secure legislation which is realistic, goal based and with an actual effect on the environment
- Related to all aspects of our environmental challenges, we will be open and explicit related to the communication of our intentions, actions and results.
